Battery compartment

   The battery compartment fixed onto the undercarriage structure of the railway cars is a welded grated structure, which contains the battery holding cars, the electric wiring and the network connection points.


Cog generator installable on the axle-arm

   In case of modern microprocessor-based anti-skidding equipment the insufficient adhesive force between the wheel and the track controls the skidding of the wheel-set. Due to its definition the device measures the speed of all of the railway vehicle wheels through the revolutions transmitter.
A computer analyzes the measured data and controls the brake cylinder pressure accordingly for each wheel.

Szakálfém LLC. manufactures the two types of tooth generators installable on the axle-arms required for the device impulse transmitter. In one configuration the signal transmitting gear is journaled in the bearing cap, driven with a cog. In the other version the gear is installed on the axle-arm. The following figure shows the geared signal transmitter installed on the axle-arm.

Mostly in cases of electric-driven railway vehicles so-called back current is created in the bogie bearings. These back currents, if taken off through the bearings, can cause their early breakdowns.

The axle-arm grounding device manufactured by Szakálfém LLC. makes it possible to directly transfer the back current to the axle, bypassing the bearing.
The axle-arm grounding device can transfer back current to the bogie axle in the 200A – 400A current range.

Complete arresting device

   Sometimes during operation railway vehicles must be fixed against movement. The hand brake and locking brake serve this purpose. The hand brake is a mechanical brake that can be operated – even during movement – either from inside the vehicle or from a place constructed on the car’s undercarriage.

On railway freight cars locking brakes are used in the vehicle’s stationary position from the side and by standing next to the car.

Szakálfém LLC. manufactures parts for spindle locking brakes:
  • geared transmission,

  • brake tension-bar, which belongs to the car’s mechanic brake.

Device for earthing of axle-necks

In bearings of railway vehicles, especially electricity driven ones, flow of back-currents must be avoided.

Reverse currents may cause early breakdown of bearings.

Device for earthing of axle-necks manufactured by SZAKÁLFÉM LLC. makes it possible for the reverse currents to get directly on axles. keeping off the bearings. Device for earthing of axle-necks is manufactured in two versions, capable to conduct 200 or 400 A, respectively.


Disk break units with beam-adjusting break cylinder for personal and engine cars

The Szakálfém LLC. products contain the disk break units with beam-adjusting break cylinder used in the mechanic break systems of personal and engine cars. In disk break this unit is the machine component, which contains levers, break-linings, suspension valves and tension-bars.
With these the breaking force originating in the break cylinder is transferred to the break disk. Drives may be created to increase the force.

DRV type beam adjuster

   According to SAB WABCO license, Szakálfém LLC. manufactures for the railway the beam adjusters used mostly in the break systems of towed vehicles. The beam adjuster’s task is to compensate the wear of the break-blocks, frames and joints in the brake beams.
The DRV beam adjuster is axial controlled, dual quick-operating mechanism. It corrects the smaller break-block gaps immediately, while the larger ones after 2-3 breakings.

Our company manufactures the DRV type beam adjusters in several configurations and operating ranges. The DRV 2 type is capable of transferring max. 120kN tension, and can be manufactured in 200 – 600mm adjustment length range.

Glued panels for brake and pneumatic branch works

   On modern railway vehicles the brake and pneumatic branch works operating units are placed on different panels.

On Szakálfém LLC. manufactured brake panels the channels required for pneumatic connections are created in the interconnecting table surfaces with milling. This is followed by gluing and screwing the two tables together.
After density and sealing examination the fittings may be installed on the external side of the panel.

Grounding box

    Equipment used in railway travel, built next to the railroad tracks. It ensures the proper grounding of the electric overhead wire.

LA4R type payload switch

   Szakálfém LLC. manufactures the pneumatic controlled mechanical payload switch device based on the Swedish SAB WABCO’s license. On railway vehicles, mainly freight cars, break force may need to be changed according to load weight.

With the help of the mechanical payload switch the brake beam drive may be changed so changing the brake-block force depending on load weight may be realized.

The payload switch device is set with the spring height change-sensing valve originating from the load weight.

Pneumatic breaking status indicator and break displays

To examine and monitor railway vehicle break status Szakálfém LLC. has developed and manufactures pneumatic break display devices. The dual-position display device can indicate several operating status:
  • indicates the disengaged or engaged status of the break cylinders with spring force storage,
  • indicates the disengaged or engaged status of the break cylinders,
  • indicates the hand break status (disengaged or engaged) on vehicles with disk break,
  • indicates the breaking status (empty – loaded) of cars with automatic empty load device.

It is recommended to use three-position display device to examine and monitor break status on railway cars with disk brakes. One window of the breaking status indicator displays the hand break status, while the other indicates the released brake status with the appropriate pictograms and colors. Green means released, red means engaged status while breaking operates with air pressure. In case of pressureless air tank a special white table indicates that the vehicle hand brake must be checked.

Railway bearing-box

   The first and most important part of the bogie in railway vehicles is the bearing, which transfers the vertical and horizontal forces generated during operation between the wheel and the car-body. In railway vehicles the roller bearing has already replaced the journal bearing.
Szakálfém LLC. manufactures the railway bearing-boxes used in railway vehicles from the acquisition of the rough-cast until the final refining of the bearing-box.

Railway car handrails, towing-hook tabs and other external fittings

    The railway cars’ external fittings are the smaller structural units on the outsides of the car-body. The structural units in the group are the passage structures, stairs, handholds and the different indicator fittings.
Szakálfém LLC. manufactures the following in different variations and configurations for the mentioned external fittings:
  • handrails by the door,
  • guide number table holders,
  • lock light supports.
The different types of bolt clamp supports and brake aerial cable connection hose supports – railway parts manufactured by our company – located on the front wall of the railway cars, fall into this product group.

Railway sand-box

   Stores the sand used to increase adhesion between the wheel and the track. The nozzle installed under the container ensures that the sand gets to the appropriate place.


Rust-proof drainage tanks used on railway vehicles

   For environmental reasons modern railway cars use closed system toilet systems. Drainage is collected into a specifically designed tank. Szakálfém LLC. manufactures several different vacuum and non-vacuum toilet tanks.
The tanks are manufactured in passenger compartment variety and undercarriage versions. The drainage tanks are made of stainless steel. These tanks are protected from frost damage by controlled heating and are equipped with level sensors.

A so-called gray water tank may be installed inside the drainage tank as well, used to store used lavatory water. This water quantity is used to flush the toilet.

Our company’s drainage tanks meet the operational and rigidity requirements of the UIC precedents.

Rust-proof water tanks

   In the railway cars the water tanks are located either on the floor or in the attic, and have level indicator sensors. The tanks are made of 2,0-3,5mm thick rust-proof steel sheet, which external surface is protected against moisture precipitation by a 10mm insulating material.

The water tanks manufactured by Szakálfém LLC. conform to the UIC operational and rigidity requirements.

Sleeping car bed-frame

   Used in the bunk-beds in railway sleeping cars. It prevents the passengers from falling off. At the same time, when the bed is in its upright position, it ensures fixing the bed-sheets.

Spring force storing differential and disk brake bogies for flexball hand brake levers

   Towing vehicles and motor trains equipped with disk brakes, if these are not equipped with spring force storing brakes – just like with spindle hand brakes – are equipped with hand brakes that can be operated from within the vehicle.

With these systems a so-called flexball Bowden cable transfers the force exerted on the manual wheel to the hand brake cylinders.

The Szakálfém LLC. manufactured distributor converts the rotary motion exerted on the manual wheel into pulling force, and also participates in force modification as well.

Tilting stairs for swinging sliding-door

General use stairs under the entrance doors of railway passenger cars were designed for comfortable and safe boarding and getting off. Swinging sliding doors are used on long-distance railway passenger cars.

For comfortable boarding with this system the bottom step may be folded up, preventing the step from sticking out of the structural section.
